Spring break in Chicago at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Chicago: The night we drank overpriced cocktails 96 stories in the sky - it was worth it. Beautiful views from atop the Signature Lounge at the John Hancock Center.
Chicago: Our first Chicago deep dish pizza. We tried both Lou Malnati’s & Giordanos - Giordanos wins.
Over the past several months I have been considering deleting my facebook. A few times a week I meet with girlfriends for lunch and coffee dates to catch up on the current events. The past few times I met with my girlfriends I found that we were talking about gossip we read on facebook and I realized that we really didn’t have much to catch up on, considering that most of our exciting news is posted on facebook. It’s only natural to share exciting news to people; I could see that this social-networking site effected more than just coffee dates with my friends.I think if it wasn’t for facebook there would be less pressure for relationships to evolve. For example, there seems to be this pressure when your dating people these days and to add to the commitment issue that most men have, they now have this worry in the back of their mind “Is she going to want me to change my facebook status”. There’s a new saying to make it “facebook official” - I find it a bit nauseating.
I may return to facebook in a few months or may only return to save all of the photos I have saved in photo albums. I believe that social communication is weakening in the people of the social-networking generation and I would like to stregthen my communication skills, not weaken them.
This is my anti-facebook rant - here’s to not having facebook. Bring back phone calls, letters in the post, and guys asking you out in person.
Taking a look back…
The ceiling of a chapel I saw in Tuscany, this past summer, located in San Galgano. I love the brickwork. The coolest part about this chapel is under this ceiling is the sword in the stone. Yeah, you heard me.

In the cold winter months it’s only natural to reminisce to the beautiful warm memories of the summer and better yet, the warm memories in Italy. My favorite trip this past summer in Italy was to Sienna and the Tuscan countryside. Here is an entry I wrote from my journal…
July 23, 2011 -“I am sitting on the train to Sienna to meet my friend Paolo for a few days in Tuscany. The train from Padova to Florence was delayed and I had many troubles traveling to Sienna. All of the troubles seemed to disappear as I boarded my last train switch in Florence to Sienna. As I sit on the train I can see the terracotta roofs of Florence turn to green rolling hills, sun flower fields, and vineyards - it appears the cliches are quite correct for Tuscany but not just correct… much better. The train passed quickly through tunnels made for the train to pass through the Tuscan hilly countryside to Sienna. Every 5 minutes the train would disappear into darkness then come out into a different scenery. Neil Young’s Harvest Moon played in my iPod and made this beautiful visual experience complete.”
“An hour later, I arrive to Sienna. My friend, Paolo, is there waiting for me with a warm hug and smile. We go for a walk and gelato whilst catching up on each others’ lives since we last saw each other a year ago in Rome…”
This was one of my favorite experiences, along with many others, spent in Tuscany for a vacation away from my vacation.
I am constantly thinking of ways to update my blog but it’s difficult because, with a travel blog one must travel, right? Well, being an undergrad student with many anchors holding me back from actually traveling, I’ve been forced to turn to movies, music, and blogs to see the world. I am dying to go to Paris especially after watching Woody Allen’s latest film Midnight in Paris. I’ve also completed my second level French course at the university and am taking an additional course in the spring to gain further knowledge of the French language. It seems nearly impossible to be able to afford to go to one of the most expensive cities in the world but a girl can dream can’t she? A trip to Paris & other French cities will be added to my to-do list for 2012. While I’m dreaming of French pastries, thin mustaches, and all other French cliches I will try and update my blog by posting old photos and stories I didn’t have time to post over the summer. Stay tuned!

A beautiful autumn afternoon on the 1st day of October. I took the time to appreciate what was in my own backyard.
